Service Channels - Purpose and Tradeoffs

چکیده
Claims concerning the maintainability of object oriented software usually refer to encapsulation and inheritance mechanisms. However, if objects are perceived only from the code level, potentials for higher level maintenance operations are missed. Moreover, classical maintenance focussing just on code destroys the relationship that once existed between specification and implementation. We present service channels as mechanisms to support maintenance requests on the specification and, for a substantial class of requests, the propagation to the implementation keeping the relationships between specification and implementation consistent.

Power efficient H.263 video transmission over wireless channels
In this paper, we introduce an approach for adaptive minimization of the total power consumption of wireless video communications subject to a given level of quality of service. Our approach exploits tradeoffs between the power consumption of the H.263 encoder, the Reed-Solomon channel encoder and the transmitter. Simulation results show that source and channel coding parameters and transmit en...
متن کاملWindow-Extent Tradeoffs in Inverse Dithering
A video-rate color inverse-dithering system based on edge-sensitive low-pass filtering is introduced. The twin requirements of low complexity and low memory necessitate tradeoffs in system design, especially in the extent of the processing window. Our investigation shows that a single-line window is sufficient for achieving good results. We also investigate whether the separate color channels (...
متن کاملDQBarge: Improving Data-Quality Tradeoffs in Large-Scale Internet Services
Modern Internet services often involve hundreds of distinct software components cooperating to handle a single user request. Each component must balance the competing goals of minimizing service response time and maximizing the quality of the service provided. This leads to low-level components making data-quality tradeoffs, which we define to be explicit decisions to return lowerfidelity data ...
متن کاملConsumers in Information Technology Enabled Service Encounters: Perceptions and Tradeoffs in Multi-Channel Interactions
This study examines information technology enabled, multi-channel service context from the end-user’s perspective and, more specifically, from the perspective of a consumer, in particular the extent to which the multi-channel interaction experience results in consumer satisfaction and any tradeoffs that consumers make in the evaluation of the context of service. Empirical results from our onlin...
متن کاملAnalytic Hierarchy Process Model for Evaluating a Health Service Information Technology Network
A decision model using of the Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP) was investigated to reflect the relative importance of quality of service (Qos) needs of an Information and Communication Technology (ICT) system by health service related applications. A pilot study is carried out in Health institutions in Chile to examine priority criteria from end users perspective concerning Qos issues. The purp...
